Global Partnerships
Collaborating for Sustainable Biomass Development Worldwide
The Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP)
IBEC collaborates closely with the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP), a major international initiative launched by the G8+5 in 2006 to promote sustainable biomass and biofuels deployment, particularly in developing countries. GBEP unites public, private, and civil society stakeholders from over 23 countries and 14 international organizations to coordinate biomass research, policy development, market integration, and investment facilitation globally.
Key Functions of GBEP
- Facilitating high-level global bioenergy policy dialogue and international cooperation.
- Supporting national and regional policy and market development for bioenergy.
- Promoting efficient and sustainable biomass use through project development.
- Enhancing information exchange, technology transfer, and capacity building.
- Tackling supply chain barriers to integrate biomass into energy markets.
- Coordinating with synergistic initiatives to avoid overlaps and maximize impact.
Diverse and Inclusive Membership
GBEP partners include national governments (e.g., Brazil, China, India, Italy, USA, UK), UN agencies (FAO, UNEP, UNDP), multilateral development banks, research bodies, and industry associations. The partnership actively fosters South-North, South-South, and North-North collaboration, boosting visibility and viability for bioenergy worldwide.
Join the International Biomass Energy Council’s global network of innovators, policymakers, researchers, and investors championing biomass solutions that power a sustainable and resilient world.
