Committee Overview

IBEC’s Standards & Certification Committees work to advance global sustainability certification schemes for biomass feedstocks and bioenergy products. These committees engage experts and stakeholders to develop, harmonize, and promote adoption of rigorous environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria ensuring traceability, responsible sourcing, and climate impact reduction.

Key Certification Frameworks

International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC)

A multi-stakeholder system covering agricultural, forestry biomass, wastes, and renewables, aligned with the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED).

Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP)

Focuses on sustainable forest biomass used for energy, applying rigorous principles and chain of custody requirements.

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) & Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC)

Widely recognized forest management certifications contributing to biomass sustainability. Explore Standards

Committee Roles and Participation

Committees provide guidance on sustainability principles, develop certification standards, review compliance tools, and facilitate stakeholder dialogues. Members include biomass producers, certification bodies, NGOs, policymakers, and technical experts collaborating to uphold market integrity and environmental protection.
